SUMMARY
I am interested in pursuing a career
in law for many reasons. Of course the road to become a lawyer, or also known; an attorney, is a long one. It requires a lot
of years spent in school and much determination. To me in the end the rewards
are well worth it.
Lawyers can make a large substantial
sum of money each year. Of course as some of you know, those wages are subject to change depending on what type of law you
practice, or who you work for. I would like to work for my own private law firm. The wages you earn are based on the percentage
of the money you win your client. Because of this, the more cases you take and win will effect your earning; there for, it
will give me the possibility of earning more, also it always me to become my own boss. This will give me the freedoms at work
I seek and desire in my career.
The employment outlook for lawyers is expected to grow through 2014. This aspect of the career attracted me because
it tells me being a lawyer equals job security. One day I plain on have a family of my own. Becoming an attorney tells me
there should always be work for me to support my family. At this present moment, there are 800,000 jobs that I would be able
to choose from in this career path.
Of course not everything about becoming a lawyer is so appealing. Attorneys can expect to work in offices behind desks
most of the time handling paper work and writing up documents. I would rather have a career that allows me to work with my
hands in the outdoor environment. What first brought practicing law into my scope was the excitement of the court room that
television portrays. This research project has taught me that the courtroom is mostly not what Hollywood
makes it out to be. It was interesting to find out that most of the legal battles are not even fought there.
Lastly, the thought of seven years of college is frightening. I have been in school for less then a year and I’m
ready to just get my degree and start working. Not only the length of the schooling is unpleasant, but the competiveness of
getting into law school is also just as bad. From talking to people in the law program at UF, it seems that you have to be
completely about your studies. You have to really be able to balance your personal life with your academic one. This is something
I have trouble doing sometimes.
Still the prestige of be a lawyer out ways it all. My main goal in life is to someday become a provider for the family
I would like to have in the future. It is awesome to be able to earn a very good living while fight for those of can’t
fight themselves. Being in the military, I really took for granted have a career that allows me to come home every night and
be with me family. I am will to take on the things that I’m not to fond of to be able to have these privileges that
come with being a lawyer.
